Education at Kremlin Care
The education of young people is paramount At Kremlin Care Children's Home; we view education as an important and valuable part of a young person life. We therefore provide an education room fully equipped with computers and a wealth of educational material including language courses.
We understand and appreciate that many young people accommodated will be disaffected and may have negative views and experiences of schools and the education system.
Their needs may not have been met and they may never have discovered their abilities or potential. Therefore a range of flexible needs led, educational opportunities will be adapted to each young person by a range of internal and external facilities with complimentary skills and experiences. Therefore every effort is made to make learning fit the young person rather than the young person fit the learning.
Our aim is to enable all young people to enjoy learning and build confidence through achievement, which will develop the skills they will need for life. Plans will be flexible and based upon individual needs, interests and aspirations.
Staff having key work responsibilities will arrange for and support the young person through their enrolment process, within the local mainstream or appropriate education placement. The young person's key worker will organise and support, educational visits and assist with any home work, they will also organise any community-based activities, recreational leisure pursuits, sports and information technology facilities.
As part of their education young people at the home will be encouraged and coached to live independently. Education will be practically targeted, incorporating 'real life ' situations, problems and solutions. Kremlin Care recognises the importance of learning additional skills and knowledge which would be helpful in everyday life, not only within the workplace.
A number of training courses are arranged on a regular basis for both staff and young people to attend and share learning experiences within a supported forum. Subjects may include first aid, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Food Hygiene, Personal Safety, Welfare and Community Services Academic achievement will be encouraged sensitively so as not to put further undue pressure on the young person. Young people will be encouraged to use facilities within the community e.g. youth clubs, libraries, restaurants, which will help with their social integration. To enable each young person to achieve his or her potential.
As a Team we plan, monitor and review every young person’s progress very to ensure that needs are met and progress is made and the outcomes are positive. Kremlin Care plan learning through Personal Education Plans; Placement Plans; Individual Education Plans; and Joint Action Planning. All young people are offered the opportunity to achieve qualifications.
